Billings Vineyard Church Sunday Sermons
Our Sunday sermon messages at Billings Vineyard Church are given in hopes that the listener will know the Bible more than they did before. In the Vineyard, we see Jesus’ teaching on the kingdom of God as the overarching and integrating theme of the Scriptures. We root our theology in these teachings on the kingdom of God, embracing an ‘inaugurated eschatology’ – where God’s beautiful future is breaking into our present experience.

Jesus is the true vine—our only real source of life. False vines promise control and comfort but lead to emptiness. Abiding in Him means letting go of these illusions and surrendering to God’s pruning, which shapes us for true life (Hebrews 12:11–12, Isaiah 64:8). This isn’t a threat of exclusion, but an invitation to real, lasting joy (Psalm 46). What would change if Jesus was not just your help but your source? (Matthew 11:28–30)

This sermon from Pastor Adam Greenwell explores Moses’ moment of calling in the wilderness and the revelation of God's name: Yahweh. Through Scripture—from Exodus to John and Hebrews—we see God's unchanging character, His promises fulfilled in Jesus, and His ongoing mission to gather His people. It's an invitation to trust the Shepherd who leads, sacrifices, and restores.

On Pentecost Sunday, Pastor Adam Greenwell unpacks the powerful moment when God poured out His Spirit on ordinary people—just as prophesied by Joel centuries before. This wasn’t just an event—it was a divine movement, a pivotal moment in God’s plan. Pastor Adam reminds us that Pentecost marks the handoff: Jesus ascends, and the Spirit descends, bringing with Him boldness to speak, courage to stand, and power to live a transformed life. "Come, Holy Spirit" isn’t just a prayer—it’s a posture of expectancy. The same Spirit that raised Christ now lives in us, empowering us to represent the King and live out His mission. The Holy Spirit is not an accessory to faith but its very source—the presence of God in us, the power of God through us, and the person of God walking with us. This message is a call to open our hearts to the wind, fire, and voice of the Spirit—and to live fully alive in His power and unity. #Pentecost #HolySpirit #AdamGreenwell #ComeHolySpirit #ChurchUnity #SpiritEmpoweredLife

This week, Pastor Adam looks at John 11:1–26. These verses highlight how Jesus reveals His identity and power through tragedy. When Lazarus died, Jesus demonstrated that His timing is purposeful, even when it may seem delayed. His delay wasn’t neglect but a lesson in trust. Eternal life isn’t something we earn—it’s found in receiving Jesus. Sin separates us from God, but Jesus, the Resurrection and the Life, restores us. Trusting Him bridges the gap between our desires and God's will

In Door of the Sheep, Pastor Adam Greenwell reflects on Jesus’ words in John 10:1–10: “I am the Gate.” This message explores who the "sheep" truly are—not everyone by default, but those who choose to walk with Jesus. Drawing on the humble role of shepherds and the nature of sheep, Greenwell illustrates our deep need for guidance, protection, and purpose. Just as a shepherd becomes the gate for his flock—caring for their wounds and keeping them safe—Jesus offers us access to God (1 Peter 2:22–25), true security (Psalm 23), and abundant life (John 10:10). But entering through the Gate requires a personal response.

In this powerful and honest message, Adam unpacks what it truly means to trust God and walk in His light. Drawing from passages like Romans 12:1-2, John 8:1-20, and Isaiah 43:1-4, he walks us through the four foundational levels of trust: Care, Sincerity, Reliability, and Competence—and how God fulfills each of them perfectly. Through the lens of Scripture, we learn that Jesus is the Light of the World, not just to guide us, but also to lovingly expose what needs healing. This isn’t to shame us, but to restore us. Adam reminds us that God’s light brings both comfort and clarity, and when we trust Him fully, that light begins to shine through us, as seen in Matthew 5:14-16. This sermon reminds us that even when we feel broken or unworthy, God still sees us as His masterpiece—one that is still in process. His light does not come to condemn but to restore, and when we fear exposure, it's often because we don’t fully grasp His compassionate heart. In Christ, we are fully loved, fully forgiven, and fully accepted. We have nothing to fear, nothing to hide, nothing to prove, and nothing to lose. Declarations to carry with you: I am fully loved. I am fully forgiven. I am fully accepted. I have nothing to fear. I have nothing to hide. I have nothing to prove. I have nothing to lose. Let this message encourage you to walk confidently in the light of Christ—and to reflect that light to a world in need of hope.

In John 6:14–52, Jesus declares Himself the Bread of Life—our true source of nourishment. Just as bread isn’t complete until it’s been through the fire, our lives are shaped and strengthened through God’s refining process. He sees every need, every longing, and brings all the pieces together in His perfect way. When we partake in Jesus, He becomes part of us—fueling our actions, shaping our desires, and transforming our lives. Let go of control and trust the One who truly satisfies. Will you let Jesus be your provider today?

In this moving sermon, Adam Greenwell asks the powerful question: What now?—after witnessing how far Jesus is willing to go to save the lost, as shown in the Gospel of Luke. The message begins with a reflective welcome and prayer by Father Thomas Keating, setting a sacred tone for deep spiritual challenge and encouragement. Adam unpacks the fear many feel in giving God complete control, reminding us that holding back puts God in a box. True transformation begins when we let Him in fully—when we truly know who God is. Through the story of Peter, who felt too sinful to be used by God, Adam emphasizes the grace and forgiveness that God offers even when we still struggle. He also warns against the danger of “cheap grace”—a version of faith that offers comfort without real change. True transformation, he explains, requires surrender and intimacy with God. Drawing from Exodus 3, Adam reflects on Moses’ struggles with doubt and disconnection until God revealed His identity. The sermon concludes with a look at Yahweh's different names, offering a fuller picture of who God is and how He longs to be known.

This message invites us to name our fears and confront our misconceptions about God. We’re reminded that God's love is not earned—it’s freely given. From the beginning, God saved us before any rules were in place. Jesus shattered expectations by loving the broken, the sick, and the poor, not just the religious elite. He brings peace into our chaos, anxiety, and trauma. Just as He appeared to Peter, a failed disciple, Jesus meets us in our mess and offers hope, love, and order.

These words were spoken at the empty tomb—and they still speak to us today. In a world that teaches us to earn love, God reminds us that His love is freely given. We don’t have to fight for a relationship with Him—it’s already ours. From Genesis to the Resurrection, we see a story of freedom lost and restored. Adam and Eve were once unashamed before God, but sin brought fear and hiding. Jesus’ death and resurrection invite us back into that fearless, honest relationship. We’re not meant to live in shame. God doesn’t hold our past over us—He invites us into grace. You were part of His plan from the beginning. Now, don’t be afraid. Go and tell the world.
